Reflection on Unit 1

In unit 1, I learned the introduction of Critical Literacy which is divided into three topic, “convicted killer”, “stories and facts” and “rules and regulation”. I learned the efficient way to approach text and think gravely for the meaning of the text.

The interesting information that I found in this unit is I learned how to think astutely while reading the text and not just reading without thinking and understand anything. The most interesting information is I can differentiate the stories and facts which help me much.

But there is some difficult thing to understand, for example in “Convicted Killer”; I found it is hard to understand the terms of perspective and positioning because they are quite similar and I also found it is hard to know who is the intended audience.

The first time I read “Convicted Killer”, I think that the text is an ordinary text and quite bored but when I refer to the text for many times in doing my portfolio 1, I found that the text is quite interesting and my first impression is totally wrong. Then I focus more in thinking critically to understand what the text all about is.
